    Does the Bible Command Christians to Fast? A Biblical Answer

    Should Christians intentionally fast? Many believers assume the answer is yes. After all, countless books, sermons, and Bible studies encourage fasting as a spiritual discipline that deepens one’s relationship with God. I remember hearing one preacher describe a thirty-day fast that produced a profound spiritual experience, leaving listeners with the impression that we should pursue the same practice. But when we examine the biblical evidence, a different picture begins to emerge. The belief that fasting is something Christians should pursue is not uncommon.
